THIS is the best time of year! It’s a time for reconnecting, showing gratitude, gift giving, and appreciation for the joys of life – like Hawkeye Wrestling!
Our wrestlers are honing their skills and just wrapped up a strong Thanksgiving training phase following their 20th straight Cy-Hawk Series win over the Iowa State Cyclones (21-15)… 2 decades of winning for the good guys!!

CLUB UPDATE
Austin DeSanto is currently overseas competing at two Greco-Roman competitions – you heard that right! GRECO! Austin took bronze at his first tournament (63kg) at the Haparanda Cup in Sweden and is set to compete again this weekend on December 7 at the Haavisto Cup in Ilmajoki, Finland. Austin is being coached by Joe Warren, a 2006 World Champion.
DeSanto and Warren are also traveling with Otto Black, a 2024 U20 World silver medalist from Parker, CO and Iowa commit. Read USA Wrestling’s full recap here.
Spencer Lee has been training hard and is gearing up to compete sometime this month! This will be his first competition since winning a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Stay tuned for more details on our social media channels!
HAPPENING NOW
Up next our Hawkeyes head south to St. Charles, MO to compete at the Journeyman Duals. They will face off against Princeton & Army, 6:00pm and 8:00pm respectively. You can buy tickets to this event here.
Then our team comes back to town right before the New Year to compete at the 3rd Annual Soldier Salute at the Xtream Arena (Dec. 29 & 30). Our Pre-Match Social will actually be between sessions on Monday, December 30 following the semifinals and just before the finals at 30 Hop, across the street from the arena!
If you can’t attend in person we encourage you to follow along by streaming the competitions live on the UFC Fight Pass, for the Journeyman Duals and on B1G+ for the Soldier Salute. You can also listen to all events, for free on Hawkeye Radio Network!
Last month we announced the formation of the HWC Board of Trustees. Currently we have 3 revenue streams; Events, the Inner Circle, and our Herb Tyler Endowment. By adding another layer to our organization we feel we can start climbing our way back to the top of the wrestling world!

Our next major event is our Arctic Plunge! Saturday, January 25, 2025 immediately following the Ohio State Dual!! This event is so much fun and it’s an opportunity for friends, family, and co-workers to come together for one awesome cause!
Jumpers set out to raise as money as possible for their frigid jump. Jumpers also have fun by dressing in costumes and having unique walk out songs and themes to their jumps! If you haven’t done it before, this is your chance to make a big splash!! Follow the event link below to learn more.
